There was a time not long ago when the average person only wore 'homespun' adornments. These were made of such things as clothespins, hair, fabric, plants, marbles and wood, just to mention a few. The only people to have gold and precious gems were those of higher social status.
Advances in manufacturing in the 1920's created ways to mass produce the beautiful stones that we call Rhinestone. This in turn created more jobs in the after war economy. Middle class society was able to easily afford, and wear, the jewelry with the completed look of dress, hat, gloves, stockings, and shoes... referred to as their 'costume'.
Many people think costume jewelry is just cheap jewelry, but the costume jewelry of this bygone era is quality designed pieces made by well known jewelry designers.
On the following pages, you will find some of my Designer Signed, Vintage Costume pieces. They are both beautiful to look at, and to wear. Today, you don't even need to wait for the special occasion to wear them. They can be worn with T-shirts, jeans, sweaters, or casual work clothes.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. I will be adding more as time goes on, along with more history of the rhinestones, metals, and settings used in the creation of these gorgeous pieces.
